Information and local events in Asheville, North Carolina.

Some people call it Appalachia .  Others might refer to it as the Southern Highlands .  Yet others know it as the Blue Ridge Mountains . The Cherokee called it Katuah.

Whatever the name, everyone agrees that our majestic mountain home is filled with scenery and natural wonders of unsurpassed beauty.  For more information about our local geography and natural environment, please see our page on Geography & Environment

Our combination of Southern latitude and mountain altitude results in an exceptionally mild climate with four distinct seasons.  Whether for part of the year as a second/vacation home, or year-round, you will find the weather comfortable and pleasant in our area.  Please visit our Climate and Weather page for more information.

Asheville and the Western North Carolina area is a fun place to be. The combination of nice weather with abundant mountains, forests, and streams provides our residents and visitors with a wealth of recreational opportunities.  Whatever your interest, there are outdoor recreational opportunities in our area for everyone.  What else is there to do here?  You name it, and we have it, including fine arts and hand crafts, world-famous architecture, beautiful gardens, live performing arts, museums, wildlife exhibits, restaurants, shopping, special events and festivals. Whatever your taste, and whatever your age, we have something to appeal to the interest of everyone.  For more information, please see our Things To Do page.

Unlike some mountainous areas, reaching Asheville is easy.  Interstate 40 runs through our region, and connects to I-26 (which will soon be extended to connect with I-81 at Johnson City , Tennessee ). The Asheville airport provides easy flight connections to several regional airports.  Maps and other travel information can be found in our Transportation page .

When you are ready to begin looking for a home in our area, you will need to decide where you would like to live.  Would you prefer to live nearby to Asheville 's jobs, shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues? Or would you prefer one of our smaller outlying communities, such as Black Mountain or Weaverville? Or is it the seclusion of a mountainside retreat that you seek? Whatever your dream, there is a place for you here.  You will find more information in our Communities section (under construction, please check back later).

Whether you have children, are looking to complete your education, or just want to learn something new, we have a variety of educational opportunities available for you here. Check them out through our Education page.

For the convenience of our customers who are in the process of relocating here, we have also compiled a set of useful links and other information about our local government, health care, utilities, employment, etc. These can be found in our Useful Contacts page (under construction, please check back later).
